Heritage of Mei Ho House
Architectural Assitant, AJAR Ltd. 2021
museum is the first privately run museum of Hong Kong Housing established and operated by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association (HKYHA). Mei Ho House, Mei Ho House originated from a devastating blaze that broke out in 1953 (later known as “Shek Kip Mei Fire”). - excerpt from “The origin of Heritage of Mei Ho House”, https://www.yha.org.hk/en/our-services/mei-ho-house-revitalisation-project/heritage-mei-hohouse/
To offer a more interactive experience to the visitors, HKYHA seeked partners to revamp the museum interiors with a clearer narrative. I was given the opportunity to propose the new theme and devices of the museum as an arhictectural assitant in AJAR, succeeding the cooperation between the two entities.
Due to structural constraints, the museum is divided into a series of pocket bays connected by a central corridor. Thus, the interior and display design became the focus of the revamp. Different from the archive mindset of the public museum, our team designed consistent language in the details of the display panels and cabinets. The interventions reflect the beauty of simplicity from the old communities and allow seasonal changes in content.
